Happy New Year to all of my wonderful readers! This year is a BIG year for me, I turn forty! This blog post is going to be a personal one. For as long as I can remember I have been a goal setter. I wouldn’t have a timeline or plan to accomplish them but I would take great pleasure just setting them. After keeping a bullet journal I have actually started to achieve my goals! Each time I enter a decade, I try to imagine what I would like that decade to look like and I set goals to make sure I stay focused.
A bullet journal is very free-form apart from some simple ways to track and log data. The journal keeps me organized and gets me intentionally thinking about my life each day. It is also a very creative outlet for me. I have a pinterest page dedicated to journal ideas that you can check out here. But the point of this post wasn’t about the bullet journal – I digress.
It is Back to School for Me
The point of this post was to let you know a little about me and a glimpse at the intentions of this blog, my resources, and just my life. I want you to know the person behind this blog and really the reason why I do it all. It all boils down to helping people. I feel good when I do something nice for someone. I guess in that respect it is completely selfish. But I get joy when someone tells me that I helped them teach better, that their student got it, that their child enjoyed the activity that I created, that I ignited a learning fire within.I like to get creative and think outside the box to look at teaching and learning in different ways. I READ so many books about teaching, learning, neuroscience, the psychology of learning, critical and creative thinking. I am obsessed with learning. I am so obsessed with learning and reading that this year, January 29, 2018 I will start my formal educational journey again, this time diving deep and studying creativity at SUNY Buffalo. I can’t tell you how excited I am. Over the moon actually.
Teach · Encourage · Inspire
I hope that my studies will shed light on how to teach the “new” student. This and the next generation of learners are different than most us born prior to 2000. The workplace is going to be different and I want to make sure that we, as teachers, stay current and ahead so that we have prepared civilians entering the workforce who improve and take our world forward. So that is the big picture. The 21st-century learning skills that are being adopted by schools across the world are AMAZING and my hope is that I can empower teachers and learners through the resources I create. I want to SUPPORT you SUPPORT your students! I want to Teach · Encourage · Inspire … That is my goal.
Blog & Work Goals
I am so lucky that I really do love writing curriculum. It is a creative outlet for me. Although I loved being in the classroom, creating resources and supporting teachers around the world support their students has become my passion. When you are in the classroom the last thing you have time for is studying the latest educational research, designing curriculum, and doing the one million and one things teachers do in the classroom for their students. This is where I come in. I hope that I can help you do your job better. I want to help you help your students. So this year, this is how I plan to do it.
Resources to Knock Socks Off
I realize one thing about my resources, when I create from the heart students LOVE it. This year I am going to do more of that. One of my key components that I strive to achieve with each resource is differentiation. I want to reach all learners where they are at and help them go further. This year I want to work on more resources that help achieve the 21st-century growth mindset, help learners know themselves as learners and help them achieve all of the standards while LOVING learning. Hefty goal but it is 100% worth it to me and one of the reasons I work every day!
I plan on publishing a blog post on Monday and Wednesday of every week. They might be short, they might be long, they might be a free resource, a tip, notes on educational research or anything else that I might find useful to you. I am trying to be broad and not let myself get bogged down. I want to be transparent and helpful. That is why I don’t plan on censoring myself. I want to be genuine. So goal #1 publish quality, useful content that I enjoy writing and reading and hope that someone else in the world will find it useful too.
Facebook & Instagram (plus live content)
One thing I am not good at is social media. This year I plan to get over my camera shyness and really share with you. I realize social media is the best way to connect so I am going to just get over it and just right in. If you don’t follow me yet, you can at Facebook and Instagram. Sorry, no snap chat. I love playing with the filters but I am just trying to handle what I can handle, you know what I mean!
Email Connection: Three Tip Thursday
This is something I am starting brand new this year! Each Thursday I will share with you THREE tips, hence the newsletter name Three Tip Thursday! Clever, I know! Again I am keeping it loose but useful. If you want to sign up, do so below!
Oh yes, I know, it has been over a year since I posted on youtube but that was because I am SO overly critical of myself. Yeah, since we are being raw and honest here, I am working on being ok with being me OUT IN THE WORLD. Oh gee, did I just say that for all to see! One thing about the internet is a lot of people just lose their filter and that scares the beejeezus outta me. One of my life philosophies is to treat people with respect and kindness on the internet some people can be just so darn mean. This year my goal is to work on being ok with that. So with my youtube channel (current subscribers 37 as of 1/1/18) I plan on doing what I have been doing creating short skits and fun and useful info. I also want to start connecting with students around the world to help them learn better, meaning videos that you can share with your student such as my gratitude one. So please follow me and let me know what you would like to see!
Happy New Year – Let’s Make 2018 Great!
So that’s it… Those are all of my goals for this year. They scare me. I wonder if I can achieve them but I will try. I will work my hardest. I am here to help you and your students, it really is the reason why I am doing this. I know you are busy, I know you need support. I am going to try to do that.
